A Poem from Hal Farquhar
Well, I think I was raised in the key of C,
There’s nothing very fancy about me,
And if I ever do need absolution
It’ll help to be a Rosicrucian.
And I’m a Christian, not that it matters,
Labeling people leaves lives in tatters.
I’m only me, and I’m everyone,
And we’re all a unit, beneath the sun.
And I’m partly Black, and partly Jew,
Not that it really matters to you.
You’d better like me for what you see,
And not for what you want me to be.
‘Cause i’m a multifaceted guy,
I kiss the earth while I kiss the sky.
I’m a little confusing, that ‘s for sure.
Genetically I’m far from pure.
Can you buy it? I don’t know,
Just sit and watch my passing show.
Don’t try to take my head apart,
You’re never finish, and you’ll never start.
For me, I make no apology,
I walk the earth, but my spirit’s at sea.
I can walk both sides of the street,
So look both ways if we happen to meet.
Hooker, doctor, I really don’t care,
And I really don’t care what you like to wear.
I really just want to be your friend,
Just reach me coming around the bend.
A long itme ago I made a choice,
I almost never raise my voice.
So be quiet and listen to what I say,
And I’ll try to send something good your way.
I take the good and leave the bad,
That’s the only philosophy I’ve ever had.
This way I don’t discriminate,
‘Cause we’ll all be meeting at that pearly gate.
